However I classify this story as gen because the romantic relationship isn't the focus of the story, but just a sub-plot, pretty much as the Gibbs/Hollis or Tony/Jeanne pairings were in the series.

OK, first NCIS related post on this journal, my introduction to the NCIS fandom.

My name is Ilaria, I’m Italian and I’m older than McGee but younger than Tony.

As you can see by my username, when I started this journal, I was very much in the “Star Wars” fandom – more accurately, in the Obi-Wan Kenobi’s fandom – and I still am.

As for NCIS, I started watching it from the very first episode aired by the Italian TV in 2005 or it was 2004?

I watched that first episode for several reasons: 1) I like detective/investigative series, although not all of them; 2) the producer was Bellisario and while I never liked “JAG “because it was too military-based for my tastes, I knew my parents liked it; 3) I read on the TV Guide Mark Harmon was in the cast. Back to my teenage days, I had a crush for Mark after I saw him play Bruce Willis’ love rival in “Moonlighing”. Of course that crush, as most of my teenager ones, was short lived, but I never forgot him. So well, when I saw his name, I found myself being curious to see how he had changed in the past 15 or so years.

I wasn’t disappointed. *GRINS* . In my opinion, Mark Harmon has improved with age and silver hair-- just like Sean Connery did.

But Gibbs and the show won me with much more than Mark’s physical attractiveness. I fell in love with the characters—all of them, even if Gibbs was my favourite from the start. I liked how all the characters seemed a bit eccentric in their own way. I liked how they interacted with each other. I liked the humour and the lightness, so different from the oppressive (at least for me) atmospheres of CSI (which was the ‘show of the moment’ back then, but which I never managed to like, mostly because I don’t like the characters).

I was so hooked from NCIS that I never lost an episode and bought all the DVDs—the one and only TV show I have done this for.

My favourite characters are, in order:

-Gibbs : I love his no-nonsense, dominant attitude; his being a sort of lone wolf; his tragic past; the way he cares for his people and his sarcastic humour;

-Ziva: I like her inner vulnerability; her humour, her strength, her special relationship with Gibbs and her struggle with English language/ American slang. Being a no-English-speaking-born myself, I can relate with her difficulties. It took me a lot of time to understand what “on your six” meant!!!

-Abby: well, who doesn’t like effervescent, energetic, loving Abby?

-Tony, McGee and Ducky are pretty much at the same level of 'liking'.

I also liked Kate, Jenny and Hollis Mann and was very sad to see them leave the show, even if I prefer Ziva to Kate.

My favourite episodes are: “Heartland” , “Hiatus 1-2”, “Kill Ari 1-2”, “Bete Noire”, “Shalom”, “Reveille”, “Requiem”, the ones featuring Hollis Mann and in general everything that show us a bit of Gibbs the man.

As far the fandom goes, I’ve been reading NCIS fiction for years, but I tended to do it only when I had nothing else to read in my other fandoms of choice (Star Wars and, before it, Gladiator). It was a sort of second best choice, and I did it only during the months the show was aired, and forgot about it and the show during the summers.

Now however, things have changed. NCIS is no longer second best, it is the first one and this is why I have changed the layout of my LJ and I’m presenting myself with his post.

As for my readings go, I like almost everything that is Gibbs-centric (what a surprise!).

My favourite canon pairing is Gibbs/Hollis and I’m quite upset there are only a few stories about them (please leave a comment with links if you know any), followed by Gibbs/Jenny, especially how they were in season 3.

My favourite fanon pairing is Gibbs/Ziva – an uncommon one, at least compared to others – followed by Gibbs/Abby and the occasional Gibbs/Kate.

As for slash, I’ve a big problem with NCIS. I read and wrote Star Wars slash, and read Star Trek and Gladiator slash, so I’m quite open to read this genre—but the point is that, for me, it doesn’t work that well as far NCIS/Gibbs are concerned.

I’ve read a lot of Gibbs/Tony stories, some Gibbs/Ducky and a couple of Gibbs/McGee, but I simply cannot see these pairings. Just a few minutes ago I was sorting the screencaps of the newest NCIS episode and there was one shot with Gibbs and Tony side by side in MTAC. I looked at them, tried to imagine them as lovers and said “Naah…”

I cannot see it, I cannot really believe to it, even if I keep reading some Gibbs/DiNozzo stories now and then. My problem is mostly with Tony...I don't know, it seems like he's more serious in fan fictions than in the show, so while I can buy him in a relationship with Gibbs while reading a well-written story, the spell is broken when I see him in the show...Yeah, I know, I'm a basket case...This probably why I struggled so badly with the first (and probably only) Gibbs/Tony story I wrote. :(

As for genres, I like AUs, romance (but not PWP), hurt/comfort (especially if the wounded one is Gibbs), angst, supernatural/not human themes (werewolves, vampires, centaurs, aliens etc.).

This is a post directed to all the friends and readers that might be surprised to see the new look I’ve given to my LJ.

To all of them I want just to say I’ve not forgotten, rejected etc. Obi-Wan Kenobi— how could ever do that?!? – just that now there is someone else in the frontline of my fan-related thoughts.

In truth this new guy, who some of you might have recognized as Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) of the “NCIS” TV show, is not new at all. I’ve liked this character since the first time I saw him, back in 2004. However, it is only now that he has completely overwhelmed me, so much to push Obi-Wan in the second line.

Someone said “always expect the unexpected”…this is what it happened here. As I said, I’ve been watching NCIS and Gibbs for 5 years, and he never stepped in the forefront on my “characters-crushes”, no matter how much I liked him. My heart belonged first to Maximus Decimus Meridius (“Gladiator”) and then to Obi-Wan Kenobi (I seem to have a thing for “heroes” with a tragic life and/or past), but Gibbs was always there.

Then a few months ago, I watched an episode of the 6th season of NCIS – on Youtube because we are a season behind here in Italy --and bang! Something changed in me. The affection, the care, the liking I’ve always felt for Gibbs, turned into love. I have a great empathy and find very easy to put myself in a character’s place. This helps me a lot as a writer, but it has the downside to make me very emotional, especially when the character I like/ bond with is suffering in some way-- I remember that when I watched “The Passion” I was nauseous and felt like suffocating during the flagellation and crucifixion scenes, not to mention crying like a fountain (it is an Italian saying).

So, well, coming to what probably interest you most, I still have 6 unpublished Obi-Wan stories that I plan to post in the next few months.

After that, I don’t know what will happen. At the moment my muse is on vacation in some remote location and she doesn’t seems to have any intention to return any time soon. I’ve no idea if, when she returns, she will be interested in writing more Obi-Wan’s stories or if I will try my hand at some NCIS fic.

Anyway, I will keep on looking for good Obi-Wan fics…so people out there: write!! :)
